Health and Safety is similar to stakeholder engagement - it is not optional. It is an essential part of how we carry out our business. At its core is respect for people. The three main elements of successfully developing a project are programme, quality and budget. Our positive approach to health and safety underpins each of these. Excellent health and safety standards will always save time and money and lead to improved quality. Process driven health and safety will only get us so far. Interpreting legislation and devising safe systems of work that can be adhered to is the process. Ensuring all our staff and our sub contractors’ staff fully understand and appreciate the agreed method is linked to our culture. Mount Anvil demonstrates a dynamic health and safety culture from the top down and, as such, our health and safety accident incidence rate puts us in the top 7% of safest major builders. In the Sunday Times Best Companies Survey 2008 we achieved a near-perfect 96% positive score from our staff regarding our approach to health and safety. No other company in the survey had a higher regard for health and safety. During 2008 we received a number of awards for health and safety including Considerate Contractor for our St Anne’s Court scheme, an East of England Construction Training Award, Building Magazine Awards runner up for our Worker Engagement across all projects and a British Safety Council International Award for our East End Mission scheme. In addition, our 'this space' development was chosen by the Construction Federation to launch their Safe Crane Campaign. In 2009 we received received two International Safety awards from the British Safety Council for our Samuel Jones and 'this space' developments. |
