Student Village, Surrey Institute of Art and Design, Farnham, Surrey
This project provides accommodation for 345 students and has a unique character with which the students can identify and the development reflects the intimate and varied nature of Farnham’s town centre. This scheme won two awards - RIBA Award for Architectural Excellence and Civic Trust Award for Design Excellence - and is comprised of 31 shared, three-storey houses and three apartment blocks with full disabled access. Most of the student houses line a new pedestrian route from the main college campus to Farnham Castle; others form a square which provides a lively hub and meeting place. Through innovative design, Mount Anvil achieved the difficult aim of translating mass accommodation into a place of real character.
