Hampstead Manor Welcomes 120 Local Pupils to Site

We recently hosted an activity afternoon at Hampstead Manor for two local primary schools; St Margaret's and St Luke's. Over 100 pupils learnt about Mount Anvil, the history of this beautiful development in the heart of Hampstead and staying safe on site.

Last week we welcomed over 100 local primary school pupils to the historic Hampstead Manor site on Kidderpore Avenue. The pupils were attending a specially organised afternoon event, during which they learnt about the site’s unique history and ecology, as well as finding out how we keep our people and the local community safe during work.

The children enjoyed a range of group activities, hosted across three gazebos on Hampstead Manor’s lawns. The first saw them learning about the history of the Grade II listed Kidderpore Hall and John Teil, the enigmatic East India leather trader who built it. Whilst learning about the history of leather working, pupils had the opportunity to make small leather animals to take home with them. Elsewhere pupils learnt about the site’s ecology, taking a close look at some of resident minibeasts and plants, as well as hearing about how Hampstead Manor’s new pond, landscaping and community learning facilities will encourage on-site biodiversity post completion.

Pupils then learnt about how we create sites that keep our people and the communities that we work in safe. Mount Anvil’s Health and Safety Director Simon Walker’s talk was delivered with the help of CCS character Ivor Goodsite, and after the talk the children took part in drawing and colouring tasks before stopping to enjoy the provided refreshments.

The event was a huge success, with the real experts – the children - telling us it was “the best day ever”, and “totally awesome”. We couldn’t be happier to have hosted such a positive, enjoyable day for the young community in the local area and look forward to more opportunities to work with local schools and community groups as work progresses.
