Helping 100 Young Londoners Into Jobs

Supported by the Housing and Planning Minister, Brandon Lewis MP, we are delighted to announce our commitment to helping almost 100 young Londoners into jobs as we launch the National Skills Academy for Construction

Check out the video.

The Mount Anvil Skills Academy will provide almost 100 apprenticeships, work placements and work experience opportunities for young Londoners.

Additionally, a further 500 individual learning opportunities for local schools and colleges will be provided to help encourage the next generation of talent into the industry.

The Mount Anvil Skills Academy will be based at our landmark scheme Keybridge in Vauxhall, Lambeth (SW8) - where in partnership with leading housing association A2Dominon, we are creating 441 new homes, employment space to support 500 – 1,000 jobs, and one acre of new public open space.

Darragh Hurley, Director, Mount Anvil, said: “London is a world class city, and we believe its future rests on striving for equality of opportunity for all. With a skills-gap emerging in the construction industry, but a pressing need to get more homes built in London, it’s vital that we start training the talent of tomorrow, today. They are the people who will build and shape the London of the future.”

Housing and Planning Minister Brandon Lewis said: “This Government is committed to helping young people gain essential skills and prepare for their future careers and schemes like this Mount Anvil National Skills Academy are playing an important part in achieving that.

“Construction offers an exciting and rewarding career and we need to build a new generation of home grown talented, ambitious and highly skilled construction workers. That’s why we are increasing the number of young people doing apprenticeships and traineeships to ensure we have a pipeline of skilled workers.”

National Skills Academy for Construction status is awarded by the CITB to organisations that develop first class training and development opportunities through their projects; driving education engagement, apprenticeship recruitment and sustainable employment in the construction sector.
