The Silk District raises the bar on considerate construction

The Silk District in Whitechapel gets an exemplary score card of 46/50 from the Considerate Constructors Scheme – Placing us in the top ten from thousands of sites across the UK. Not only is it a clean, safe and supportive place to work but everything the team does has the community and environment front of mind. Read more below.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is an initiative that aims to improve the image of the construction industry nationwide. All site and schemes registered with CCS are monitored throughout their build life against a Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage best practice within the communities they work.

This week the results came back from our first site assessment where were scored an exceptional 46/50. A benchmark was set and not just for our schemes, but those across the whole of the UK.

Alan Edgar, Production Director said, “I’ve worked for some big-name housebuilders over the years and I’ve never seen a score like this, especially on first inspection. It truly is a testament to the team’s effort to delivering an exemplar project while being committed to serving its surrounding community”.

What did we do well? Well, without blowing our own trumpet, we scored five out of five on the CCS’s key codes of considerate practice. This is the first the Considerate Constructors Scheme has recorded to date – that’s 22 years’ worth of visits. Here’s what we’re marked on:

Care about appearance: Ensure sites appear professional and well managed

Respect the community: Give utmost consideration to their impact on neighbours and the public

Protect the environment: Protect and enhance the environment

Secure everyone’s safety: Attain the highest levels of safety performance

Value their workforce: Provide a supportive and caring working environment

We believe in making a positive, lasting difference to our teams, contractors and surrounding communities, and this score is proof that we’re delivering. But we know the hard work starts now, to not only maintain such high standards, but continue to innovate and improve. Well done to The Silk District team.
