A Q&A with Nyron Higgins, Project Director at Royal Eden Docks

We recently caught up with Nyron Higgins, Project Director at Mount Anvil, to chat all things Royal Eden Docks. From what's been happening on site to what's going on in the neighbourhood, and his role at Mount Anvil over the last 11 years.

Hi Nyron. It's great to see you, albeit virtually, how have you been?

I know, strange times! Although, I'm pleased construction work is able to continue under the new guidance. It means we've been able to carry on with our prepatory works on site ready for the big kick-off early next year. We spent a lot of time getting the site COVID-safe, so we're glad we're able to continue working.

That's great! You're at Royal Docks all the time, can you tell us what's going on in the area right now?

Despite the strange year, Royal Docks is such an exciting place to be. Huge regeneration is going on in the area, I'm excited for the future of the neighbourhood. Even once this project is completed, I'll be back to enjoy the leisure and retail facilities available here.

Even the Mayor is moving in! (more on that below) If the Mayor and the GLA are setting up HQ a stone's throw from Royal Eden Docks, that's a promising sign for what's to come for the area. Royal Eden Docks purchasers have got in here at a great time.

Sounds exciting! Let's chat about the development. You know the design of Royal Eden Docks better than most, what's your favourite thing about it?

The amenities, hands down. There are so many! Particularly the landscaping and open green spaces. It's a calm oasis in the centre of a lively city. The best of both worlds.

17 amenities to be exact... And what can you tell us about what's going on on site right now?

Well, the bathroom pod prototypes are signed off, ready for manufacturing, so that's exciting. Bathroom pods are a method of construction we use where the bathrooms are built off-site and then we lift each one into the homes and install them. It means we can move quicker and has proven to be an effective way of working.

On site, we've been cracking on with more prepatory works including the drainage work which is vital to the build, of course.

We've also been working on the piling, which involves drilling holes as deep as 23 metres, key for the foundation of the development.

Thanks for the update. Now, let's talk about you... You've been at Mount Anvil 11 years now. What's your favourite thing about your role as Project Director?

My favourtie thing about my role is that I get to see a project through from start to finish. To be involved from conception, throughout the construction process, working with all the team members and sub-contractors that that involves, to then handing the keys over at completion and knowing I played a role in delivering that purchaser a quality home for them to enjoy.

Thank you, Nyron. Looking forward to the next update.

Construction update

We recently commenced drainage works on site, this is to establish the main development outfall for the scheme. In your next update you can expect details on what progress 2021 will bring.

In the neighbourhood

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, confirms that both the Mayor and the Greater London Authority (GLA) will leave City Hall and move to new permanent headquarters in the Royal Docks in 2021.

Already at the heart of the exciting new chapter for the Royal Docks, The Crystal will be renamed ‘City Hall’ as part of the move, which has been set for late 2021. The exciting relocation will see London’s administrative heart move out east to become part of one of the city’s most significant transformation stories. Read more here.

We won gold!

On Tuesday 3rd November, the Building Awards named Mount Anvil as the 2020 Housebuilder of the Year. But it’s not just us that won, it was also our partners and residents. Read more here.
